Charity Spotlight: Make A Wish Foundation

Chris Greicius, a 7yr old leukemia patient who wanted to be a policeman, served as the inspiration for Make-A-Wish. In 1980, a neighborhood banded together to grant his request. His desire had a profound effect on his neighborhood and served as the impetus for the creation of Make-A-Wish. The goal at Make-A-Wish today is to create the means to fulfill the wishes of every child who qualifies.

To grant the wish of every child who has been diagnosed with a critical illness, Make-A-Wish® counts on the help of tens of thousands of volunteers, donors, and supporters. One wish is fulfilled every 34 minutes in the United States and its territories. A wish can be the motivation young kids need to feel that anything is possible and to put more effort into fighting their illnesses. This one conviction directs and motivates to grant wishes that improve the lives of the children.

"A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness."

Make-A-Wish base all they do on this single conviction quoted above. It’s the driving factor to give children's wishes for a better life who are going through such adversity. They strive to maximize the impact of the donations received. The mission to fulfill every eligible child's request is, above all, its central tenet.

More than merely a nicety, wishes have real value. And they are far more than presents or isolated historical occurrences. Everybody involved—wish children, volunteers, contributors, sponsors, medical professionals, and communities—is impacted by wishes. Just the act of fulfilling a wish can give wish children the courage to follow through with their medical procedures. It may be the first time in a while that parents feel upbeat. And still more people might discover their full potential through philanthropy or volunteerism.

The kind donations made by corporations, other organizations, and individual donors are proudly managed and protected by Make-A-Wish America. Additionally, Make-A-Wish assist regional chapters in their ongoing efforts to grant life-altering wishes. This involves assisting chapters with resource development, program administration, referral management, and policy and procedure navigation.

For kids battling their illnesses, wishes can change the odds. A desire enables people to see beyond their limitations, including children, families, and entire communities. Most critically, a child's quality of life can be enhanced by wishes. Experience the strength that comes from imagination and its power. You are the beginning of a life-changing wish.
